Billy Garraty & His Association With The “Lad in The Lane” Erdington.

Now called the “Lad in The Lane” in Bromford Lane, Erdington. Billy was the landlord in the days when the pub was called “ye Old Green Man”  The building is said to be the oldest the oldest building in Birmingham, although this fact is being challenged by the “Old Crown” in Digbeth, Birmingham.

Below are documents testifying to the fact that he was the landlord for a short time at the end of his career.

 

He was also registered to No 17 Alleyene Rd, Erdington, Birmingham in the 1912/13 Register of Electors. See bottom right of the directory listing below – which states that William Garraty is the landlord at this time. However around this time the term used for a publican was a victualler see here
