Billy Garraty Early Football Career With Aston Villa
Billy signed for Villa from Aston Shakespeare in August 1897 joining the best club in the land at that time with Villa coming off, previously winning the Division One Title in 1895-1896 together with the F.A.Cup and Division One Double in the 1896-1897 season.
As a result of this previous success, Billy only made 2 appearances for the club in 1897-1898 as George Ramsey did not want to change a winning side.
However, everything changed for him during the 1898-1899 season. The reason being that the Villa had an extremely poor previous season by their very high standards. They only managed to finish 6th in the League and were eliminated early from the FA Cup in the 1st round by Derby County (Sat 29th Jan)
Given his chance to stake a first place, Billy scored a very creditable 6 goals in 9 games for the Villians in the 1898 – 1899 campaign,
